Steve's Railway Articles
Model Railway Articles
Over the years I have written a number of articles about model railways. Many of these are aimed at beginners to the hobby but there are some that are more advanced.
Most of these articles have appeared in the Australian Model Railway Association's 'Journal'. A number have also been published by British Railway Modellers of North America (BRNMA) who have a reciprocal membership deal with AMRA which allows them to reprint articles which have appeared in each other's magazines. I have indicated below those articles that I am aware have been reprinted by BRMNA. Note that articles are still subject to copyright, this is a special arrangement between the particular clubs.
The following are the articles that I wrote which appeared in AMRA Journal (including the issue in which they appeared):

Answers to Questions
Sometimes those things that an experienced modeller takes for granted are a complete mystery to those just starting out in the hobby. Sometimes even an experienced modeller comes across something they don't understand. I have received a number of questions from modellers and the following have kindly granted me permission to share their question (along with my answer) to assist others who also require an answer to the same question.
- Baseboard Height asked by John
- Hinged Lifting Sections asked by Gary
- Wiring Long Sections asked by Nick Crabtree
- Rail Breaks asked by Alan Huddy
UK Prototype Articles and Reference
I have written the following articles and reference pages which deal with my favourite prototype railway - British Rail (Southern Region) - and its predecessors. Most of these have not appeared elsewhere.
- Southern EMUs - the 4VEP - appeared first in the Nov/Dev 2003 AMRA Journal
- British Rail Diesels - The "Duff" (Class 47) - appeared first in the May/June 2003 AMRA Journal
This prolific class went everywhere including the Southern. - British Rail Diesels - The "Hoover" (Class 50) while not a Southern Region locomotive 50s regularly visited the region.
- Reference: Class 47 Diesels - lists the original numbers, TOPS numbers and renumbers, and names.
- Reference: Southern Steam Locomotives 1960s
- Reference: Southern Station Colours
- British Rail Diesels - The Crompton (class 33)
- SER Lines and Stations
- LCDR Lines and Stations
- Reference: Southern Electric Multiple Units - includes both SR EMUs and BR(SR) EMUs
- Southern Electric Locomotives - appeared in British Railway Modellers of Australia's magazine 'Clearing House' in March 1989
